Colin Ashley has been a practicing
solicitor for approaching 28 years. He is the principal of the
long established high street firm of A. H. Sutcliffe and Co of Rochdale
which firm has developed a niche area of work dealing with the affairs of
older people and, in particular, vulnerable older people.
He
is a trustee of Rochdale Community Support Trust, a charity
providing care in their own homes for older people with mental health
problems and those with early onset dementia.
During his professional life he has had a wide range of
experience but in recent years has concentrated on the non-contentious part of
Legal practice and has had a substantial involvement with the conduct of the
affairs of older people. He frequently becomes involved in the administration of
the estates of those who have died intestate and leaving no near relatives
Away from professional practice he has taught part-time in Further Education variously at the
Rochdale and Oldham Colleges and has provided inputs on courses for those caring
for the terminally ill at what was the West Pennine College of Health Studies. He has also taught on some
stress management and assertiveness courses and has undertaken training for various
Victim Support Schemes. He was the founder of Victim Support in Rochdale.
